Online Dating Safety & Background Checks

dating background check

This recent news surrounding online dating safety and customer screening aka background checks comes to light after a few high profile cases of women claiming to be assaulted by men they have met on online dating sites, particularly, match.com. These checks aren’t meant to be intrusive but rather if someone who has a history of assault or crime signs up, they can be rejected.

I’d like to point out that these types of situations are unfortunate but are not ONLY unique to dating sites. I do believe it is ushering in a better, safer and more transparent era of online dating. There used to be a stigma where only dorks and overweight women went looking for love online. It’s true, don’t try and deny it. This was late 1990′s and early 2000′s. Now? Everyone uses it and it makes sense, why wouldn’t you?

The implementation of background and security checks will add an extra level of security for those going on dates and an added level of trust to the dating sites who are the most stringent on enforcing them. There will always be free dating sites, and they will always be littered with people who you really have NO idea who you’re talking to.

If you’re looking for a safe, reliable and potentially meaningful online dating experience, go with a paid dating sites service. Just the fact that someone has to pay and a credit card is logged is a whole new level of security above free ones. I believe the background checks will be common play in the next year or so.
